Podcast 3: Chats at the Repair Cafe, with Kāpiti Menzshed and Kāpiti Community Centre
/

On Thursday 20 July, The Rubbish Trip took part in a Repair Cafe, organised by Kāpiti Coast District Council as part of their No8 Wire Week. The event took place at Te Newhanga Kāpiti Community Centre. Throughout the day members of the public came and went with items to be repaired, from broken clothes, to vacuum cleaners, heaters and various appliances. On the ready were a whole team of volunteers, including sewers, electricians, IT specialists, and members of the Menzshed Kāpiti, to fix people’s much-loved items. In the kitchen, rows of homemade baking, tea and coffee, awaited anyone who wanted to partake. As tools whirred in the background, we took the time to chat with Peter Blackler, Treasurer of Menzshed Kāpiti, and Johanna, Events Coordinator at the Kāpiti Community Centre, about the work they do in the local Kāpiti community.
