Phil McCabe is the co-founder and chief executive of Solscape, an eco-accommodation in Raglan featuring unique, alternative buildings, yoga, clean eating, surf instruction and organically grown produce, nestled atop a hill overlooking the stunning curve of Ngarunui beach.
Until recently, Phil was also the Chairperson of Kiwis Against Seabed Mining (KASM), a spontaneous community-based action group that stands against any non-essential mining of New Zealand’s foreshore and seabed. Most recently, KASM lodged an appeal to the High Court against the Environmental Protection Agency’s decision to grant consent to Trans Tasman Resources to mine the South Taranaki Bight. In this podcast, Phil talks about Solscape and KASM, these two arms of his activist world, and their interrelationship as different, but complementary, forms of activism.
